Import Crypto live prices into Excel
Excel is a powerful tool that can be leveraged to track cryptocurrency prices. There are several methods to achieve this, but I shall explain a process in this article: Built-in Stock Data in this article.
Excel offers to
fetch real-time prices for a limited number of cryptocurrencies without
additional Add-ins, code, or API.
This is free
and the simplest method available to everyone, but the method restricts the
available cryptocurrencies. At the moment of publishing this article available
crypto are:
- Bitcoin (BTC)
- Ethereum (ETH)
- Litecoin (LTC)
- Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
- Ripple (XRP).
To track a
wider range of cryptocurrencies, including lesser-known or newly launched ones,
you'll need to use third-party APIs or some of the other methods. These APIs
typically offer data for a vast majority of cryptocurrencies, providing you
with a more comprehensive overview of the market.
The good thing
is a wide range of fiat currencies in pair with crypto. They can be used in
almost all widely accepted currencies: USD, EUR, CAD, AUD, etc.
Step-by-Step
Importing Live Prices in Excel:
1. Type in the cell pair, for example,
BTCUSD
2. Under the Data tab click Stock
3. Click the menu above the cell and choose
the information you want to display. It offers Price, change, dates/time, and
different statistics.
The steps are
presented in the video:
To track the
other pairs, for example, Bitcoin /Euro or Ethereum/ Canadian Dollar - type
these pairs: BTCEUR or ETHCAD.
Excel doesn't directly support built-in function cryptocurrency exchanges or wallets. However, you can import transaction data from your exchange or wallet into Excel for analysis using API, CSV, or manual entry for further data transformation and analyses.
Note: While Excel is a powerful tool for crypto data analysis, it's essential to consider security when handling sensitive financial information. Use this method as information, not as official data for trading.
Additional Tips
• Data Refresh: To update the data
regularly, you can use the Refresh All button or set up automatic refresh.
• Formatting: Format the cells to
display the values correctly. Add some conditional formatting to enhance
visualisation and better review.
• Charting: You can create charts
based on the imported data to visualize price trends.
